Lead the marketing function by developing & implementing marketing strategies and policies to ensure that brand positioning and product strategies improve the organisation’s competitive position and enables the achievement of KPIs.



Key Responsibilities

Strategy:

Lead the development, communication and implementation of marketing / brand strategies (short & long term) regarding customer identity, product positioning, market penetration and pricing to enable the delivery of business & commercial KPIs.

Brand Management:

Lead innovation across the portfolio & channels (Stores, local, international, social media, digital, via brand ambassadors (if applicable) etc.) to develop & execute campaigns that result in successful products & brands (either independently or via agencies).

Direct collaboration across the business (product development, merchants, operations etc.) to ensure that products & ranges are understood for marketing purposes. Customer needs are incorporated into product design, branding and marketing approaches across targeted segments. This includes designs, packaging etc.                              

Research, Analysis & Reporting:

Direct the research, analysis & monitoring of competitor positioning, customer insights (buying patterns, footfall, trends, focus groups etc.) and potential markets to project product demand/profitability, product features/enhancements and favorable timing for product launches.

Contributes to management/ board reports on the overall status and progress of the marketing function.      

Customer Experience Management:

Lead the collaboration with store designers, merchants and operations to ensure and enhance customer experience with regards to brand in line with the business model. This includes the development and execution of marketing plans and the related calendars, visual merchandising and web integration (e.g. POS) requirements that drive product sales.                 

Cost & Investment Management:

Control & monitor marketing budgets and investments to ensure profitable returns that will enable the achievement of commercial goals.                   

Leadership & Team Management

Lead and drive the team by setting clear direction and transparent expectations, to exhibit the culture and values of the business and achieve / exceed KPIs.

Identify and drive succession planning, structure, talent management, training and development requirements to ensure teams are competent and skilled to perform their required functions.

                                                     


Key Requirements


Education:

Post-Graduate University Degree; NQF level 8 or equivalent; Marketing or related.

Experience:

8-10 Years’ experience in marketing 

5+ Years in Senior / Management Role in marketing

Management experience in a retail environment preferred

Knowledge/ Skills:

Numerate & Analytical Proficiency.

Commercial / Economic acumen.

Communication & negotiation skills (verbal & written).

Computer literacy.

Conflict management (Ability to manage creative people).

Systems (IT) understanding & experience.

Retail market insights & industry knowledge.

Knowledge of current trends.

Understanding of various sale/trade platforms & territories.

Research interpretation experience.

Social & digital marketing experience.
